Meet the Coaches
Coach David Bergman
Head Instructor
David believes self-defense isn't about collecting techniques. It's about solving problems. Over more than 15 years of coaching, he's built Katalyst's curriculum around a simple idea: help ordinary adults develop practical skills through structured progression, live resistance, and purposeful coaching.
Rather than relying on memorization or endless technique lists, David focuses on teaching students how to make sound decisions under pressure. Every class is intentionally designed to build competence one layer at a time, creating an environment that's challenging, safe, and rewarding for beginners and experienced students alike.
His coaching philosophy has been shaped by over two decades of martial arts training, Krav Maga Israel, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition, ShivWorks, Knife Control Concepts, and years of continued study in how people learn under stress. Today, much of his focus is spent refining Katalyst's curriculum, developing instructors, and building a system that produces consistent results.
Outside the gym, David works in the security industry, enjoys hunting and the outdoors, and is a proud husband and father.

She challenges students to push beyond perceived limits while maintaining the professionalism and accountability that define Katalyst's training environment. Whether coaching beginners or experienced students, Asia emphasizes resilience, composure, and consistent execution under stress.

Coach Victoria Wiggin
Instructor
Victoria combines clinical precision with practical self-defense. As a lifelong martial artist and active ICU nurse, she brings a unique perspective to helping students develop techniques that work under pressure and for people of every size, strength, and experience level.
Her coaching focuses on problem-solving rather than perfection. Victoria is known for pressure-testing techniques, refining details, and helping students understand not just how to perform a skill, but why it works. She is especially passionate about empowering women to take ownership of their personal safety through practical, evidence-based training. Victoria also leads Katalyst's Women's Grappling class, creating an environment where women can develop confidence, skill, and resilience through live training.
Outside the gym, Victoria volunteers her time teaching self-defense at a local women's shelter and continues to balance her work as an ICU nurse with her commitment to martial arts instruction.
